Fall has arrived not only in the beautiful colors but the
frost came this week as well. We are
still walking back and forth to the temple in our sweaters but there has been a
time or two a coat would have felt good.
It is still so very pretty!

Road Signs: Since the world revolves around a round-about the road signs over here are very different as well. Have a look. We had to add our two favorites.
Okay, right, well then. It looks so cute on my word document, but it will not copy over to the blog. I guess I will have to take some pix so that will take a bit. SORRY!Road Signs: Since the world revolves around a round-about the road signs over here are very different as well. Have a look. We had to add our two favorites.
1. Fasting
Fast Sunday is the first Sunday of every month where we fast 2 meals and give the money you would have used for food to the poor. Fast are always more meaningful if you have a specific thing you are fasting for. We realize how very blessed we are but we are human and always seem to want more blessings. This Sunday we are fasting for our family – to have good jobs, good health, and I will announce on the blog that Neil and Becca are expecting and are far enough along that they will announce this new excitement in all our lives. We are very excited and are fasting and praying everything continues to go well. This fast is also for our nephew Mitch (Jerry and Ardith’s son) who underwent 2 pretty big skin cancer surgeries on Friday and is waiting for results on his condition. Our prayers are with you Mitch and family.
We had a lovely surprise at church as our friend Rubin brought us cookies again. (Wish we weren’t fasting.) Church was very nice and then home. I fixed a big pot of potato soup and then we let it simmer while we napped.
Finally, we ate. After dinner we went to a fireside by the Matthews who had served a mission in Nigeria. WOW! Not sure that I want to ever go there. They had some amazing stories from snakes to gunshots but they are still here to testify that Jesus is the Christ.
After the fireside, Mulholland’s came over for a Carmel sundae and we watched their video of a bike riding in Isle of the Skye where we just were. AMAZING! In fact, why don’t I just add the link so those of you who can watch can see a most amazing biker and some beautiful scenery?

Enjoy, but be prepared to be amazed!
I went out to take a reflective picture of the temple in the fall with the beautiful red tree.
The ducks would have none of it and wanted in the picture!

2. Day Off!
We decided to just take this day off. It was rather wonderful. We slept in, exercised, just sat around, blogged in the dungeon, cut Brad’s hair, washed and ironed and watched a movie! Wonderful day!

Two weeks ago we took a picture under this tree with the beautiful fall colors.
Now it is empty. Sorry about the shadow, but the sun was a bit much.

3. S-l-o-w D-a-y
I guess I am officially old. I applied for Medicare last year at 65 and this morning I completed my online application for Social Security. We will see how that goes while we are over here. The application was easy enough – now if it worked.
I forgot one pair of pants to iron and my mother said if you heat up the iron you have to iron 4 things so I ran around the house looking for more. Everything is now pressed and wrinkle free.
We also had a great walk. I know it was great because I am still stiff and sore.
Oh my goodness. Where are the people? We are on afternoon shift which is always calmer but this was just too much. I was in clothing and I had 3 customers all day, 2 of which only had a credit card and we can’t accept them so they got free clothing!

4. The Contest!
Wow, did I ever sleep. My nothing day completely wore me out and I slept forever last night. We made it up and on our walk which was very nice.
We tried to take a nap but that really didn’t work that well so we just fixed some potato soup for lunch. The temple is still so slow. Brother Callaghan said the night would be worse because it was fireworks day. I asked about that and he is what I learned.
“Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Day, Bonfire Night and Firework Night, is an annual commemoration observed on 5 November, primarily in Great Britain. Its history begins with the events of 5 November 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords. Celebrating the fact that King James I had survived the attempt on his life, people lit bonfires around London, and months later the introduction of the Observance of 5th November Act enforced an annual public day of thanksgiving for the plot's failure.” Wikipedia
There you have it and we had a very slow night. The slowest night in clothing was a 95 pence night with Sister Ibbotson. I didn’t have a customer in the first 5 hours so I thought I would break her record. Four customers showed up that night so she is still the winner.

5. New Driver
I will never understand this one but you can drive in England for one year on any driver’s license. Then you have to pay to take a big test and prove you know what you are doing. Crazy! It seems like you should have done that before they let you loose on these crazy roads. Mulholland’s just reached their year mark, so he is no longer our van driver for shopping and trips. Brother Blake gets the new job. So we went shopping this morning with Brother Blake and had a great time.
The temple was still pretty sparse today but I wasn’t in clothing so I had a bit of variety. Brad and I ended in sealings and that was just lovely. Home to a cup of hot Caro and a cookie! Life :).

It was our first frost this morning. The sun came beaming up afterwards
but they said there will be lots more soon.
Our heat in our flat doesn't work -- better get that fixed!
6. Funny Dream
We always start our day with reading some church book. We are now reading church history. I had fallen back to sleep and was dreaming a man in primary was reading church history and wouldn’t stop. I got so angry with him I pushed the book off the table and tried to get the children in primary singing. I raised my hand to lead them in a song and he read again. I screamed at him and Brad says, “What?” My dream and reality got mixed up there.
Mulholland’s were having some friends from Ireland come to the temple to do baptisms for the dead. They offered to cook for them and the people said, “Great – there will be 17 of us.” Oh! We had offered to help but she had all the food under control so we just went over and carried it from her place to the accommodations longue and helped her set it all up.
The temple was a nice day. I was back in clothing and actually had some people that needed help so that was much more fun.

7. Moving Day!
The Blake’s got their key to move and they wanted to do it this morning. I woke up at 4:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep. Brad was awake a lot too. We called at 6:30 and they weren’t ready for us so we went over around 7:30. We made 2 big loads of stuff which it up and down 2 flights of stairs so we were pretty tired. Then we got ready and we were off to the temple.
It was a pretty good day at the temple. We had 3 coaches pull in so their seemed to be a lot of people. I found my 3 sisters joined at the hip, but only 2 were there but Sister Porter had her 93 year old dad and he was a hoot. At 93 he just baptized a friend (did the actual baptism) and is now teaching another friend. We had the best chat.
I spent the afternoon in baptistery so I was running ragged doing mostly laundry. I worked straight up till about 5:10 and left the last lot for Monday.
Home to pork chops so boy was I happy. And even better, the movie tonight is “Amazing Grace”. I LOVE that show. I am so happy that I have been to William Wilberforce’s grave – he is one of my hero’s for sure.
After the movie we all rushed to the longue to watch “Remembering 2014.” It was wonderful. It is their November 11th tribute to all the militaries and the fallen soldiers that paid the price for the freedoms of today. Well done! Well done! Just brilliant! Brad walked in for the very last number but he was so amazed that the entire end of the show was scripture reading and prayers. They believe in God over here and they are not ashamed to say it in public. I was a bit surprised when 'God Save the Queen' came on and Brad jumped to his feet. It was a beautiful night indeed!

One last picture of the poppies at Tower of London!
So, the week has come and gone. And it has been a very significant week
indeed. It finished our 26th
week in the mission, which means we are 1/3rd finished and have 1
year to go! In one breath it feels like
forever since we left and in the next I can’t even remember the time
passing. I hope I feel that way more and
more as the holiday’s approach. Just
realize I will forever miss family, friend and home and pray for you every day!
Remember, what need I say more?
Floss and smile,
Our Love,
The Parkinson’s
I am in the dungeon, because we are running out of internet at our home, and whether that is the problem or not, I do not know; but this computer is jumping all over the place and I cannot get a picture to stay still or get the caption under it. SORRY but I am close to pulling my hair out!
